In looking into a layman’s explanations for capital gains, we recently found a great publication from the IRS called Publication 523 for 2010. Now, this wouldn’t be an IRS publication if it didn’t leave you scratching your head a little bit, but it’s a great place to start to learn about capital gains and to get together a list of things to ask your tax preparer. You can’t know what you don’t know and this is a great place to start figuring out what you want to discuss.
